Il date vraisemblablement du n\u00e9olithique (\u00e9poque la plus r\u00e9cente de la pr\u00e9histoire, appel\u00e9 aussi \u00e2ge de la pierre polie).<\/p><p class=\"Textbody\">Cette p\u00e9riode qui correspond aux premi\u00e8res soci\u00e9t\u00e9s de paysans, et comprise entre 6000 et 2200 avant JC. A l\u2019\u00e9poque de la pierre polie, vers 3000 avant JC, la for\u00eat couvre toute la r\u00e9gion, mais la Loire a sans doute \u00e9t\u00e9 une voie de passage et d\u2019\u00e9changes. Des traces de vie sont relev\u00e9es sur le territoire dans plusieurs lieux-dits : un site de taille de silex au nord-est de Maz\u00e9, des haches en pierres polies \u00e0 La Varenne au sud-ouest. Trois haches en bronze, dat\u00e9es d\u2019environ 2200 avant JC., ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couvertes, pr\u00e8s d\u2019<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/saint-georges-sur-loire-patrimoine.fr\/index.php\/2024\/05\/30\/eculard\/\">\u00c9culard<\/a><\/span>, au clos du Fresne sous une pierre enfouie \u00e0 80 cm de profondeur, peut-\u00eatre dans un vase de c\u00e9ramique. Sur l\u2019autre rive de la Loire, le site pal\u00e9olithique de Roc-en-Paille \u00e0 Chalonnes-sur-Loire a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couvert en Cette p\u00e9riode qui correspond aux premi\u00e8res soci\u00e9t\u00e9s de paysans, et comprise entre 6000 et 2200 avant JC. On venait y d\u00e9grossir et lisser longuement les outils de pierre, comme des haches, que l\u2019on emmanchait ensuite sur un support de bois. Le polissoir est, avec six bassins, la deuxi\u00e8me pi\u00e8ce la plus rare de la r\u00e9gion des Pays de la Loire. Nous n\u2019avons que peu de traces des populations vivant au cours de la Pr\u00e9histoire \u00e0 ce qui allait devenir Saint-Georges-sur-Loire. A l\u2019\u00e9poque de la pierre polie, vers 3000 avant JC, la for\u00eat couvre toute la r\u00e9gion, mais la Loire a sans doute \u00e9t\u00e9 une voie de passage et d\u2019\u00e9changes. Des traces de vie sont relev\u00e9es sur le territoire dans plusieurs lieux-dits : un site de taille de silex au nord-est de Maz\u00e9, des haches en pierres polies \u00e0 La Varenne au sud-ouest. Trois haches en bronze, dat\u00e9es d\u2019environ 2200 avant JC., ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couvertes, pr\u00e8s d\u2019\u00c9culard, au clos du Fresne sous une pierre enfouie \u00e0 80 cm de profondeur, peut-\u00eatre dans un vase de c\u00e9ramique. Sur l\u2019autre rive de la Loire, le site pal\u00e9olithique de Roc-en-Paille \u00e0 Chalonnes-sur-Loire a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couvert en 1868.
